I traveled to Matera for a weekend getaway and stayed at Ostello Dei Sassi - Rooms And Beds. Loredana at the reception was very kind and helpful. Due to some renovation work, I was upgraded to the other building, which was equally nice and had a variety of room types to choose from. The rooms looked exactly like they did in the pictures, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The temperature in the room was pleasantly warm, especially considering the cold and rainy weather outside. The hostel also had two clean and modern bathrooms, which were well adapted for disabled guests. it was great value for money and I highly recommend it.
I do recommend this hotel.

Free WiFi in public areas. My stay at this centrally located hostel was a true breath of fresh air. The free WiFi in the common areas allowed me to easily stay connected and share my incredible experiences with friends and family back home. It felt like having a pocket-sized hotspot, without the need for any passwords or fuss.
Toilets not cleaned enough. While my overall stay was pleasant, I did notice that the cleanliness of the shared toilets could have been improved.

Absolutely mind-blowing cleanliness! The staff were super pleasant and helpful, always ready to assist. The location is jaw-droppingly perfect for exploring the historical sassi areas. The kitchen facilities were fantastic, with an electric kettle and cookware available for use. The cozy room had a unique cave-like feel, adding to the charm of the visit. The hot water and ample heat kept us cozy during our winter stay. I would hands down recommend this place to anyone visiting. Free wi-fi, car park, and a flat-screen TV were an added bonus!

I recently stayed at the Ostello Dei Sassi in Matera for a few nights. The hotel is conveniently located in the city center, just a short 10-minute walk from the train station. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Although the rooms are not separated, the beds are located in different spaces, ensuring a peaceful sleep as long as everyone is quiet. Additionally, I appreciated the option to store my backpack before check-in and after check-out. The common area was a great place to relax, with complimentary peanuts and walnuts, as well as a vending machine offering hot chocolate and more.
I would recommend this hotel.

Great location, just a short walk to the town center and shops. the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. the staff members were super friendly and provided helpful tips for things to do and places to eat. One of the recommendations for a restaurant turned out to be awesome!
There were only two toilets/showers, which were often occupied, causing some inconvenience. the family room we stayed in was at the end of a cave, which made the air hot and humid.

The location of this hostel is great, with plenty of good restaurants and shops nearby. it's conveniently located close to the main street, making it easy to explore the area. the design of the place is unique and adds to the overall experience. the architecture of the building, with its beautiful walls and ceilings, creates a special atmosphere.
The dorm room setup was not ideal, with one big open space divided by saloon-style doors. This meant that noise travelled easily, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep.

the staff was incredibly helpful and polite, making my stay in Matera even better than my previous visit. Their recommendations for breakfast were spot on, and I appreciated being able to leave my luggage before check-in. The low-cost accommodations were perfect for solo travelers who don't mind a lack of privacy.

It was situated in the famous rocks that Matera is known for, providing a unique and picturesque setting. the old city was right outside the front door, making it incredibly convenient to venture out and discover the charming streets. the facilities at the hostel were impressive, especially the comfortable beds that ensured a good night's sleep. There were also spacious lockers available for storing belongings, although the locks could have been more secure. the staff were friendly and although our interaction was minimal due to our short stay, they were helpful when needed. The hostel provided a small kitchen and a game room, adding to the overall convenience and enjoyment of the stay. Cons: No issues.
